If you could spot the object before it hits the atmosphere and becomes a meteor, then you would call it a "meteoroid". If it is big enough (usually more than 5 metres or 15 feet across) you would then call it an "asteroid".

If, after the asteroid enter the atmosphere and displays a meteor, the meteorite arrives on the ground fast enough to cause some damage (however small or big) then that is an "impact" (the event of hitting) and the resulting damage, if it creates a large circle for example, would be called an "impact crater".
